Gael Clichy Backs Arsenal Wenger to Overcome Latest Troubles at Arsenal

Former Arsenal defender Gael Clichy has come to the rescue of his former manager by claiming that Arsene Wenger is an amazing manager.

The Frenchman has come under a lot of pressure from supporters to step down from his role at the end of the campaign. His current contract runs out in the summer. While there is a new two-year contract on the table, Wenger has resisted the opportunity to sign on this deal due to various factors. The club are looking set to miss out on the Champions League football for the first time since Wenger came to the club in 1996.

After having transformed several facets of the club and being part of the numerous successes achieved over the last two decades, it would be a disaster for Wenger to leave the club after having failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Yet, fans have been demanding that the club has been going backwards under the regime of the Frenchman. Since winning the Premier League in the 2003-04 season, the club has managed to win two FA Cup titles. Furthermore, they have not been in contention for the major honours quite consistently. All these factors have finally broken the patience of Arsenal supporters. Clichy played for Arsenal from 2003 to 2011.

“It’s hard for me to see how things are at Arsenal because the manager doesn’t deserve what he is getting.I don’t think many managers could have done what he has done in the last ten years.I know how it is with supporters. They get used to something and they want something new.But usually what they get is not better than what they already had.So you have to be careful what you wish for. But I really hope everything can be sorted out for Arsenal,” said Clichy.
