CLICHY KEEN TO PLAY

Arsenal defender Gael Clichy is eager to force his way into France manager Raymond Domenech’s 23-man squad for this summer’s World Cup.

The 24-year-old has been named in his country’s 30-man provisional squad, which has now been cut to just 23 names after the omission of six players and the injury to Real Madrid’s Lassana Diarra.

The Gunners full-back failed to make the France squad for Euro 2008 and is hopeful of featuring in a first tournament for his country.

"Maybe I am among the players who are (in danger). If I am the player who leaves, of course there will be disappointment but I hope I'm not that player," Clichy told the Evening Standard.

"We don't know if the coach wants to keep the same 23 players, or whether he will call up another player."
